About Compose Yourself LLC
Compose Yourself LLC was born in 2022 in Austin, TX. One music therapist decided to offer accessible music therapy services to the community and saw a need to reach out to school districts, nonprofits, mental health facilities and so many other places of service. Brit continues to support new opportunities for community music therapy, making music accessible to the disability community, and creating opportunities for music therapy in new spaces. Implementing a humanistic, client-centered approach in the logistics of running a business also includes recognizing that all people have needs. It's a unique, flexible, accessible approach in her business model that she hopes to share with clients and clinicians alike. Offering virtual services, consultation, drop in groups and personalized recommendations are all priorities in Compose Yourself LLC.
Brit, the founder of Compose Yourself LLC, is a passionate advocate for human rights. Music therapy is for everyone who needs it and enjoys it! Compose Yourself LLC is constantly evolving to include efforts promoting equity and wellness at the forefront of healthcare, public education, disability rights, and human rights issues. Brit's Story
Brit Trinité, MT-BC (she/her) studied Communication Studies and Music at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and music and general studies at Austin Community College and graduated in 2011. For many years, Brit worked in veterinary clinics and pet stores and discovered, after singing for many years, that central Texas allergies are no joke!
Brit had difficulty singing with accurate intonation (yes, singing in tune) as a professional classically trained singer. She studied with many voice teachers in hopes of figuring out how to address the issues, until....
Brit began seeing a music therapist here, in Texas. The music therapist told Brit that of course she knew how to sing, but there was an audio processing issue happening that interfered with intonation and other factors that affect singing. It was a long, difficult process of working collaboratively with an allergist, Ear, Nose, & Throat doctor, voice teacher, music therapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist to fully address all the issues affecting Brit's singing! (And the journey never ends, right?)
People are whole. If there is an issue, it likely has ripple effects. Brit very much struggled with identity, voice, sense of achievement, self-worth, and of course, anxiety and depression to name a few areas.
After addressing severe allergies and making a plan to proceed, Brit decided to attend Saint Mary of the Woods in Indiana in 2019. Brit attended the distance learning virtual program. She completed 1200 clinical hours (unpaid, while working full-time) practicing with practicum and internship experiences in early childhood, K-12, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Stroke/TBI survivors, and older adult populations. She passed the Board Certification exam on 7/10/19.
In the public school setting, Brit learned about trauma-informed care during the pandemic and other stressful times. Addressing social-emotional needs is a cornerstone of Brit's work as a music therapist. Brit is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy-Informed Music Therapist (after completing continuing education and training in the Spiegel Academy) and continues to study self-care for music therapists and helping professionals. Brit hopes to make resources available to the community for mental health issues and de-stigmatize getting help by sharing her story.
As a trauma survivor, Brit completed Intensive Outpatient Programming and Partial Hospitalization to access help in coping with trauma related diagnoses including Complex PTSD. This experience inspired Brit to incorporate skills with distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and navigating interpersonal relationships into music therapy sessions to assist with coping in challenging times.
Feel free to reach out to Brit about if music therapy is right for you in addressing your own health needs! Be well!
